To project punjab as a drug capital of India in the movie is the main reason of controversy , as this issue was a major concern of the state and was reported by many newspapers for years and also got the attention of international media such as New York Times CBFC wanted to remove word "Punjab" from movie's name as well as from any other scene in the movie where the word "Punjab" has been used ,and there is no logical explanation to prove it right by CBFC , however this controversy seems more politically motivated ,as there was a continuous pressure from Shiromani Akali Dal, an ally of BJP. Prakash singh badal who is patron of Shiromani Akali Dal and has been the CM of Punjab state since 2007 may have some vote deficit because of the drug consumption issue , which is the major concern of the Punjab and in the movie as well . Many political party such as AAP (aam admi party) is trying to drag this issue as the state headed for assembly election next year. As CBFC comes under the central government , NDA may not want to loose the elections because of this issue, and as movie is about the drug concern in Punjab state it can leave a negative impact on the current Punjab government. However Mr. Gujjral a senior politician of shiromani akali dal told that it's a conspiracy to defame Punjab.
