Leonardo DiCaprio has won his first Academy Award for film The Revenant. This is a 2015 American semi-biographical Western film directed and co-produced by Alejandro G. Inarritu and co-written by Inarritu and Mark L. Smith, based in part on Michael Punke's 2002 novel of the same name, describing frontiersman Hugh Glass's experiences in 1823. In this film Leonardo DiCaprio's performance was widely praised and ultimately won him an Academy Award, the first of his career after five previous nominations.
