This is based on the life of Anneliese Michel who was possessed by demons so strong that her exorcism took nearly an year to accomplish. It is one of the most famous exorcism movies and it is all real!

3. The Amityville Horror (2005)

Story about a couple who move into a large house where a mass murder has been committed years ago. They began experiences paranormal activities, strange manifestations which drive them away. This is based on the supernatural events experienced by the Lutz Family when they moved in the house on 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York. Another fun fact, this house was also investigated by Ed and Lorraine Warren for being haunted.

4. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

This movie is loosely based on America's famous serial killer Ed Gein who had nine human skin masks in his possession at the time of his arrest. Spooky, isn't it?

5. The Haunting In Connecticut (2009)

The film’s story is about a family as they move into a house for the Cancer treatment of their son Matthew. The family soon begins experiencing supernatural behavior in their new house, they are haunted by the supernatural entity present in the house. The film takes its inspiration from Carmen Snedeker and her family, who also worked with paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren. The 1992 book, In a Dark Place: The Story of a True Haunting, is the basis for the movie.

In 1974, paranormal investigators Kerry Gaynor and Barry Taff worked at a place where they saw moving objects. This movie is based on the same incident where the ghost abuses sexually.

7. The Exorcist (1973)

The film deals with the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl as her mother tries to save her with the help of two priests.The Exorcist is based on the novel of the same name which is inspired from the supernatural events surrounding an anonymous boy, under the alias of Roland Doe, and a series of exorcisms performed on him. The priests experienced the boy speaking in tongues, the bed shaking and hovering, similarly as depicted in the movie. The exorcism of Roland Doe was one of three official Catholic Church-sanctioned at that time.

8. The Girl Next Door (2007)

This movie is loosely based on what is said to be the most terrible crime of Indiana state. Sylvia Likens  was tortured and eventually killed by Gertrude Baniszewski in 1965 and the movie is inspired by it.

9. Child's Play (1988)

The script was based on a nurse who allegedly put a voodoo curse on author Robert Eugene Otto which transformed one of his childhood dolls into a night-time menace. We all have seen scary movies with possessed dolls but knowing that the doll really existed is spooky!

The story is inspired by ‘real-life events’ but obviously the director has taken liberties to make it more terrifying and entertaining. The event was noted in 1991 in Madrid when a girl died in mysterious circumstances after using an Ouija board.

Watching the movie feels so terrifying as it has used the traits of psychological horror which makes you wonder till the end if it is true or not.

This Netflix horror movie has every element needed to portray an eerie effect. An Ouija board, a blood-stained mattress, spirits possessing over someone, and the highlight is the blind nun named Sister Narciso.
