Asha Bhosle was the first Indian singer to be nominated for the Grammy Award in 1997. Asha and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan recorded eleven fixed compositions (or bandishes) in California for Legacy, a private album that earned them a Grammy Award nomination in 1997.
