According to a report in Business Of Cinema, it seems that Katrina Kaif was the first choice to play the lead opposite Salman, but the actress had rejected the offer due to Ranbir Kapoor‘s apparent discomfort with his (then) girlfriend working with an ex.
Anushka Sharma is replaced in place of Katrina Kaif.
