The Insider (1999) starred Al Pacino as Lowell Bergman, a producer on CBS's top-rated 60 Minutes TV show, who told veteran reporter Mike Wallace (Christopher Plummer) and the show's executive producer Don Hewitt (Philip Baker Hall) that recently fired cigarette company research scientist Jeffrey Wigand (Russell Crowe) was ready to be a whistle-blower on his former employers.
