Director Hrishikesh Mukherjee had first selected Rekha to play the heroine but felt he would be wasting a talented actress in a film where the hero was the mainstay. So he replaced her with Bindya Goswami. The next year he made Khubsoorat, with Rekha in a pivotal role.
