Raj Babbar was signed for Shashi Kapoor's role in Namak Halal. Babbar used to live at director Prakash Mehra's house during his struggling days. Distributors offered Mehra a better price if he replaced Babbar with Shashi Kapoor, as Shashi and Amitabh Bachchan were a hit pair at the time.
