The 1956 film, called The Silent World in English, is a tremendously acclaimed Cousteau masterpiece. It has been since considered a travesty that none of the great European filmmaker's documentaries have won the Jury's grandest prize, leading to a tarnishing of the Cannes leaf itself. Michael Moore's film is the first American documentary to get the honour.
