Babur was born on 14 February 1483 in Andijan of Uzbekistan. He was the eldest son of Umar Sheikh Mirza, ruler of the Fergana Valley and his wife Qutlugh Nigar Khanum.
He is credited for the founding Mughal Empire in the Indian Subcontinent after defecting Ibrahim Lodhi in the first battle of Panipat in 1526. He ruled for a short period and died on 26 December 1530, aged 47, in Agra.
