'Optical Fibre' was invented by Indo-American physicist Dr. Narinder Singh Kapany, he is also called Father of Fiber Optics.
Dr. Kapany is not only a physicist but a businessman and an entrepreneur and he has been honored with many awards. Kapany has also published over 100 scientific papers and four books on opto-electronics and entrepreneurship.
What is Optical Fiber
An optical fiber (or optical fibre) is a flexible, transparent fiber made of extruded glass (silica) or plastic, slightly thicker than a human hair to transmit light between the two ends of the fiber.
Optical fibers are widely used in fiber-optic communications, where it is used for data transmission over longer distances and at higher bandwidths. Fibers are also used for illumination, and are wrapped in bundles so that they may be used to carry images, thus allowing viewing in confined spaces. Specially designed fibers are used for a variety of other applications, including sensors and fiber lasers.
