Lord William Bentinck (Governor-General of India from 1828 to 1835)

Lord William Bentinck pass a regulation (known as Bengal Sati Regulation, 1829) for declaring the practice of Sati or of Burning or Burying alive the Widows of Hindus, illegal, and punishable by the Criminal Courts.
