Margaret Thatcher, was the first woman Prime Minister of Britain. Margaret Hilda Roberts was born on October 23, 1925, in Grantham, a town in northeast England. Her family lived in an apartment above the grocery store owned by her father, who also was a local politician. Serving from 1979 to 1990, Thatcher was the longest-serving British prime minister of the 20th century.
