President of India in consultation with central government

The Governor of the States of India is appointed by the President of India for a period of five years. A Governor is appointed on the advice of the Union Council of Ministers, or in reality on the advice of the Prime Minister. Many a times chief minister of the concerned states are also consulted but it is not a constitutional requirement. A Governor may be simultaneously assigned to more than one state.
