AMRUT stands for Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation. The new scheme is named after former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This scheme has replaced the old Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
About AMRUT scheme
• 500 cities and towns will be covered under this scheme.
• AMRUT scheme will focus on digitization and wi-fi zones in cities to improve urban governance.
• The renewed version of JNNURM, AMRUT will be a 10-year programme with total investment of about Rs 2 lakh crore.
