Fly a plane to Antarctica, and make the first land-plane descent onto drift ice
Wilkins noted that future Arctic expeditions could use the wide expanses of open ice to use aircraft in exploration. The submarine expedition happened in 1931 but was not successful in completing the journey.

In 1927 they were first to land a plane on the Arctic Ice pack (a Stinson bi-plane), then take off again. They landed again when they ran out of fuel and walked back to the northern coast of Alaska. It was 1928 that they flew over the Arctic Ocean and then went to Antatarctica, where they were the first to fly.
