Zola Budd
Budd's race in the 3000 m in 1986 led to a series of collisions and a spiked foot which took Budd and Mary Decker, two of the front runners at the time, out of contest. Maricica Puica, the other front runner, won the race. Abebe Bikla ran, and won, the marathon in the 1960 Summer Olympic Games barefoot. In the same games, also barefoot, Herb Elliott won the gold medal in the 1500 m and bettered his own world record with a time of 3:35.6.
