The Black Dragon Fire
The fire destroyed an estimated 4,000 sq. miles (10,000 sq. km) of timber in the Da Hinggan Range in eastern Mongolia.. It is believed to have been started by timber felling activities. It spread to the Soviet Union as well, and is estimated to have been the largest to strike anywhere in China in at least the last 300 years. Even the fires in the Amazon forests in South America in 2019 (as estimated at the end of the year) have not been a greater area, being about 906 thousand hectares (2.24×106 acres; 9,060 km2; 3,500 sq mi).
