John Donne (1572-1631)
Donne's poetry is noted for its metaphorical and sensual style and includes sonnets, love poems, religious poems, Latin translations, epigrams, elegies, songs, and satires. He is known as a pre-eminent metaphysical poet. He is also the writer of the currently well-known line "No man is an island entire of itself: ..." from MEDITATION XVII Devotions upon Emergent Occasions.
