Clayton-Bulwer Treaty
The treaty, supposed to solve Anglo-US relations in North and Central America, did the opposite. Among the disputed points was that the US held that the treaty meant Britain should renounce its newly established protectorate over the Mosquito Coast (as well as a settlement in British Honduras), not a point of view that the British shared; however, after various sometimes bloody disputes involving USA forces, the British did relinquish its claim to the Mosquito Coast in favour of Nicaragua.
