Washington
Although Washington is cited as the first President of the United States of America (USA), the USA had existed since 1776, and since 1774 the land had recognised a governing body named the Continental Congress of the United Colonies (after 1776 "the United States"). The bodies had eighteen short-term presidents before Washington was elected President of the United States of America on 30 April 1789, in the first USA Presidential elections. He is, however, the first elected (and long term) president He served two terms, until 4 March 1797.
