Barry Sharpless
His half of the prize was for "his work on chirally catalysed oxidation reactions". He is known for his work on stereoselective reactions and click chemistry, and In 2019 was awarded the Priestley medal which is the American Chemical Society's highest honour, for the invention of catalytic, asymmetric oxidation methods, the concept of click chemistry and development of the copper-catalyzed version of the azide-acetylene cycloaddition reaction. Knowles and Noyori also shared the 2001 chemistry Nobel Prize, but neither was affiliated to the Scripps Research Institute. Jan Dueser is Sharpless's wife.
