To heal a wound from a poisoned arrow
Centaury, or feverwort, has also been used as an herbal medicine to treat fever, to kill worms, to treat dropsy, as a sedative, to treat snakebite and other wounds, as a flavouring, and topically for freckles and spots. It is reputed to be an aromatic bitter and tonic for treating complaints such as bloating, dyspepsia, and flatulence, and anorexia. It is a small flowering annual herb, native to Europe, and thrives in boggy meadows as well as in dry dunes. The Centaur, Chiron, is supposed to have cured himself with the herb from a wound he had accidentally received from an arrow poisoned with the blood of the hydra.
