On a bridge
It was during the Khmer Water Festival celebrations at the end of the three-day Water Festival to celebrate the end of the monsoon season and the biannual reversal of flow of the Tonlé Sap river. The bridge was across the Tonlé Sap river to Koh Pich ("Diamond Island"). Local hospitals were pushed far beyond capacity by the influx of victims. Electrocution and suffocation were the primary causes of death.
