Center, North Dakota, USA
The centre had been calculated in 1928 by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) as being near Rugby. However, calculations at the University of Buffalo, using a respected system of azimuthal equidistant projection, now show the town of Center as being closer. Rugby, however, had put up an obelisk claiming the honour in 1931 and still maintains it. The calculation, of course, differs according to what is included. According to National Geographic, the continent of North America is considered to be the area from the Aleutian Islands and Greenland in the north to the Caribbean islands and the Panama isthmus in the south.
