Painted plaster
They could be "traded" for "gold" ones after the war ended. The first statuettes were gold-plated solid bronze; a few years later the core was changed to Britannium, a pewter-like alloy plated in copper and nickel silver before the final gold plating. In 2016 the core was changed back to bronze.
