The modern Turkish alphabet was established
The founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, implemented a radical reform of the existing modified Arabic alphabet, putting an end to years of debate. The change to establish Turkey as secular was made 8 months earlier, in April 1928; the principles of the "six arrows" were adopted in February 1937; Village Institutes were developed in the 1940s.
