Robert the Bruce
Bannockburn is a famous victory over the English, by the Scots led by their king Robert the Bruce. It has been celebrated since as the first overwhelmingly successful war of Scottish independence. After the battle the Scots were independent from England in practice, and the legalities were put in place with the Treaty of EdinburghNorthampton in 1328. William Wallace led the Scots in variably successful battles for independence during the two decades before that.
