The book focusses on Obama's political life, his early life, his first campaigns, and most of his first term as President from 2008. His two previous autobiographies, "Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance" (1995) and "The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream" (2006), focus respectively on his life up to enrolment at Harvard Law School in 1988 and on Obama's political and spiritual beliefs as well as his opinions on different aspects of American culture.
