Galamian (1903-1981) was born in Persia to Armenian parents, migrated with his family to Russia, studied in Russia and Paris, and in 1937 moved to the USA. He founded the Meadowmount School of Music and later taught concurrently at Curtis, Juilliard (where he headed the violin department), and Meadowmount. Galamian stressed attention to technical detail and mental control in his training of such virtuoso violinists as Itzhak Perlman.
