Metacom’s Rebellion
The war is named after the Wampanoag chief Metacom, later known as Philip or King Philip, who was trying to avoid recognising English authority and to stop English settlement on native lands in southern New England, America. Other names for the war are the First Indian War, or the Great Narragansett War.
