Invasion of Manchuria
In the Mukden Incident a small section of trackbed near the Japanese-controlled South Manchuria Railway was sabotaged. The explosion was limited in effect, and did not affect the passage of trains. Japan blamed Chinese dissidents, and used the incident as a reason to invade. In 1932 the sabotage was established as having been carried out by the Japanese themselves.
