On the legs of poultry
The parasite's common name is scaly leg mite. It is a microscopic mite with an oval body and short legs which lives under the skin and spends its life in the unfathered parts of the bird's body, notably the legs and feet, but sometimes around the beak and nostrils. It is a common infestation for poultry. The effect of an infestation is a flaky or powdery appearance on the legs, or, if severe, distorted and sometimes crippling scabs and lumps.
