Cantonese
The expression means "genuine, good, honest, really", and the Cantonese explanation is suggested as coming from Chinese goldminers talking about "ding kam" meaning "top gold". If this is the origin it would be the only Chinese borrowing known in Australian slang apart from the Chinese game called pakapoo by Australians.
