Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepper
Poivre established a botanical garden in Mauritius (the present day Botanical Garden of Pamplemousses), with specimens imported from tropical habitats worldwide. He is also credited with introducing highly prized spices such as clove and nutmeg to Mauritius and Réunion, and spice plants to the Seychelles. "Poivre" means "pepper" in English.
