Napoleonic Code
The code, influenced by a 6th century code of Roman law, forbade privileges based on birth, allowed freedom of religion, specified that government jobs should go to the most qualified, and prohibited laws from applying retrospectively; it codified a previously scattered system and stressed clear writing and accessibility. The code formed the basis of much law drafted after 1804 in Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Netherlands, Spain, (including their colonies), Poland, Germany, Romania and Egypt. All the options are actions by Napoleon Bonaparte; the Treaty of Amiens was signed 1802; the Banque de France was established 1800; the military college at St-Cyr was established 1802.
