Joined Canada as a province
Newfoundland had been self-governing since mid 19th century, a Dominion of the UK since 1907, independent of UK law since 1931, but (thanks to financial pressures from late 19th century infrastructure and from World War I) had surrendered self-government in 1934 to adopt joint government with the UK. The province is known as Newfoundland and Labrador.
