India
The Shalivahana Shaka is similar to the Gregorian Calendar except that all months have either 30 or 31 days. A leap year is observed in the same years as in the Gregorian Calendar. The first day of the year is 1 Chaitra (either 22 or, in leap years, 21 March in the Gregorian). Observance of the Shalivahana Shaka in India started officially at 1 Chaitra 1879, Saka Era, or (Gregorian Calendar) 22 March 1957. The same calendar is also used in Java and Bali among Indonesian Hindus.
