GANEFO
The first GANEFO (Games of the New Emerging Forces) tournament was instituted as a reaction to the International Olympic Committee’s indefinite suspension of Indonesia after the 1962 Asian Games, which Indonesia hosted, where Israel and Taiwan were denied entry. The organisation adopted the motto “onward, no retreat” and it was formally acknowledged in 1963 by 36 countries. There was a second Games at the end of 1966, but no further Games have been held.
