Gurkhas
Gurkhas had served in British military action since 1817, with the East India Company. They were recruited into the Indian Army (formally, the British Indian Army) on its formation in 1895 and remained with the Indian Army which was formed in 1947, when India became independent from Great Britain. In 1947 several Gurkha regiments were also transferred from the former Indian Army to the British Army, forming its Brigade of Gurkhas, and are a renowned component of the present British Army. Gurkhas serve as a special elite guard force in the Sultanate of Brunei, as a line department of the Singapore Police Force, with UN peacekeeping forces, and, of course, with the Nepali Army.
