1960s and 1970s in Bamako, Mali
Sidibé (1935 2016) was a Malian photographer particularly noted for his black-and-white studies of popular culture in the 1960s and 1970s in Bamako. This was the period after the French Sudan (and then the Mali Federation) had gained their Independence from France in 1960. The 8th-13th centuries in the Arab-Islamic world was a flowering of scientific discovery and knowledge; the 1990s in Europe followed the fall of the Berlin Wall and the breakup of the USSR; the 1980s in Zimbabwe followed independence from the UK in 1980 and the naming of the new nation.
