Jazz
The group was founded in France by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli. Other regular performers were bassist Louis Vola, and rhythm guitarists Roger Chaput and Joseph Reinhardt. The quintet was described as drawing their inspiration from American jazz and Gypsy tradition, as creating a new dynamic jazz sound, as continuing to influence the growth of jazz into swing and as taking a sound which was European and French and jazz to wildly popular heights during their heyday.
