His role in a match-fixing scandal
The ban was issued by the United Cricket Board of South Africa, and applied to all cricket related activities involving the UCBSA and its affiliates. Despite the ban Cronje was voted the 11th greatest South African in 2004. Under his captaincy, South Africa won 27 Tests and lost 11, completing series victories against every team except Australia, and won 99 out of 138 One Day Internationals.
