The Victoria Nile flows through Lake Kyoga on its way from Lake Victoria to Lake Albert. At the top of Murchison Falls, the water forces its way through a gap 7 m (23 ft) wide, and falls 43 m (141 ft) over rocks before flowing westward into Lake Albert.
