Jellyfish
The medusa stage is the one usually identified as a jellyfish, being a free floating umbrella shape with trailing filaments. It is the adult and reproductive phase, in which the eggs are fertilised internally and develop into free-swimming planula larvae which eventually settle to the sea floor to attach themselves and grow.
