LeMond was a professional road bicycle racer from the USA and a three-time winner of the Tour de France: in 1986, (the first US cyclist to win it), in 1989 and 1990. (Maybe there should have been more: in 1987, he was accidentally shot and injured in a hunting accident by his brother-in-law, taking two years to recover.)
