Alexander Pushkin
The central character was a Russian hero who reigned as tsar from 1598 to 1605. The action was set against a background of turbulent events and ambitions during the period of relative anarchy following the end of the Rurik Dynasty (1598) and preceding the Romanov Dynasty (1613). It is described as one of the most important plays of the early 19th century.
