Nepal
The Madhesi people inhabit the flat southern region of Nepal known as the Madhesh. According to the population census in 2011, of the total population of Nepal, 22% are Madhesis. The word Madhes derives from the Sanskrit term Madhyadesa referring to the ancient kingdoms of Nepal and Awadh, in what is nowadays modern-day India. And hence Madeshi are mostly people who migrated from part of northern India i.e. UP and Bihar. Maithili is the most spoken language of Madhesi people.
