It was first color Indian film to be produced and released in India (However Movie Sairandhri,1933 was first color film released in India but processed and printed in Germany). Movie was based on a novel by Saadat Hasan Manto and focused on the plight of poor farmers. The story revolved on the life of a poor farmer who was being ill-treated by his landlord. Eventually, Lanlord is murdered and poor farmer becomes the prime suspect in the eyes of the public. The film performed moderately at the box-office.
