The present official world record holder, as per Guinness Book of World Records, is Rajveer Meena. On 21st March, 2015, he successfully memorized and recited 70,000 digits of pi at the VIT University, Vellore, India breaking the previous record of Lu Chao of China of 67,890 digits. The total time taken by Rajveer Meena was around 10 hours and he was blindfold the total recall.
On 21st October, 2015, Suresh Kumar Sharma memorized 70,030 digits of pi which gained him an entry in the Limca Book of Records.
The current unofficial world record holder is Akira Haraguchi who recited 100,000 digits of pi on October 3, 2006 which took him about 16 hours. On pi day 2015, he claimed to be able to recite 111,700 digits.
Despite Haraguchi's efforts and detailed documentation, the Guinness World Records have not yet accepted any of his records.
